The OEM’s do a great job at installing and prepping the various pieces of the puzzle for getting a police vehicle ready for the road, but someone still needs to add more equipment to allow the vehicle to be put into service. OEM packages are missing a variety of critical components required to allow the vehicle to be ready for duty. Kerr seamlessly provides the final installation of equipment to allow the vehicle to be put into the hands of the officer.
If only it was that simple. Connecting all of the electrical components is the most difficult element of integrating the aftermarket components with the OEM prep packages.
When installing these items, you want to ensure that you have a professional who knows what they’re doing. Kerr has engineers, highly trained installers and years of experience working with OEM’s on successfully connecting all equipment together.
The OEMs provide the wiring to connect their lights, but don’t provide a power distribution system that allows all the necessary additional equipment like radios, video or additional lighting to be properly connected with the vehicle.
Kerr’s offering provides a complete customized wiring harness installed into the vehicle that not only connects the OEM installed lighting and siren, but also integrates the BIT13 panel into the vehicle to support the connection of many other components required to make the vehicle ‘Ready for Patrol’.
It’s true that some dealers provide certain up-fitting services, but the complexity of vehicles and the need to invest significantly in engineering and integration is contributing to many dealers no longer offering up-fitting services. We love partnering with dealers to deliver our services to agencies.
As experts in up-fitting, we have seen it all. We have seen that some dealers are very good at up-fitting and some are not. We know that the industry is very much a “you get what you pay for” type of industry. Often products are substituted or not correctly installed. In fact, it is very difficult to examine the quality of the work as the most critical and complex work is hidden behind the reinstalled trim before you can examine the craftsmanship.
By specifying an up-fit with Kerr and using a Kerr part number, only the fleet maintains complete control of the up-fit. It is critical that all components be appropriately specified and functionality understood to ensure that your quoted price truly meets your needs.
Kerr often highlights gaps in an up-fit as the specified components will not support the intended functionality. There is nothing worse than receiving a vehicle and it doesn’t work the way you require. Working upfront early with Kerr on the specification and engineering will ensure that you “get what you pay for”.
